Step 1 Dust Mites Basics
Most people don’t like to deal with any type of insect in their home. They are often shocked when they find out that they are dealing with dust mites, which are insects you can’t even see with the naked eye.
These are very small insects that like to live in warm, humid environments and the sheets, pillows and bedding are ideal environments for them. They are able to feed off of the dead skin cells that we shed on a daily basis. They can be found throughout the entire house, but they are harmless apart from allergies or asthma.
Step 2 Wash Frequently
There are many people that will simply dust off their bedding, which is not adequate. Instead, launder your bedding properly. Items like your pillows and mattresses are not something that can be taken to the Laundromat and should be vacuumed.
To keep the dust mite problem under control, experts suggest washing your bedding once a week.
Step 3 Use Hot Water
To kill mites, use hot water. We recommend the hottest wash the fabric will allow. Cold water washing will not kill dust mites.
There are also some cool things on the market like mite proof pillowcases and mattress cases, but even these will have to be taken off and washed once a month.
Once you realize how easily you can tackle the dust mite problem, you will also want to clean other items, such as your towels and bath mats.
Note that dust mites like to live in bathrooms because of the high humidity and dead cells that accumulate there.
Using a Laundromat like our Laundromat Hyattsville, MD location makes doing the laundry a simple and easy task.
