Bleach At The Laundromat

If you’ve ever had your clothes ruined with bleach at the laundromat, then you’ll want to follow these few simple techniques to avoid this problem in the future.

The Other Person’s Bleach Could Ruin Your Laundry

One common problem is if the person before you uses bleach on their laundry, and then you come along, unsuspecting, and add your load of dark clothes. The result could be unrepairable damage. Remember, most laundromats are to be used at your own risk. So, if this happens, your laundry will be a loss.

To avoid this problem, there are two steps that we recommend. One – Pour a cup of water into the bleach cup on the washer before adding your laundry. Two – wash your light clothes first. The water will help to dilute the bleach, and the light clothes will be more forgiving if bleach spots do happen.

How Do You Use Bleach At The Laundromat?

Laundromat washers, as do most homestyle washers, have bleach dispensers. Their purpose is to mix the bleach with the wash water and give you a more thorough and consistent bleach job. Add bleach to the dispenser and be sure to follow the label’s instructions. Too much bleach will damage the material, and too little won’t get the job done.

When Should I Use Bleach?

Chlorine bleach is used to sanitize and also to whiten laundry. On the other hand, non-chlorine bleach is safe for most colors, but cannot sanitize. So, if your bright laundry needs stains or odors removed, then Clorox-2 is your best choice. However, to sanitize your color or spandex laundry, you will need to use a laundry sanitizer.
